I like sausages. These days my favorite sausages are made with roasted garlic and Gruyere cheese. Mmmm, I can taste them now…
I like them grilled, but pan-fried with butter are just as good. We bought a stash of them from the Costco a few weeks ago and after eating a couple, we froze the rest. I am really bad about remembering to set them out in the morning so they will slowly thaw in time for dinner that night. This morning was one of those forgetful times.
For Valentine’s Day, I got Cali a pink porcupine stuffed animal that is holding a small red heart. When squeezed, the heart makes a smooching noise three times. Cali is a fan of all noise-making toys so I thought this one would be a hit. But instead of her activating the noise over and over again like she does with her other noise-making toys (turkey, kitty-cat, wolf, harley davidson bone) she actually spent an entire afternoon working her hardest to remove one of the arms from the poor porcupine’s body, all without the heart smooching once.
In this video, Cali’s just the referee. The victim is the large golden retriever named Buddy and the instigator is the wily little guy named Jack. The black border collie in the background, Zoe, wants no part of it. Let’s see what happens when Jack attacks…
It is raining again today and the snails have come out in droves. I killed a couple last night while wearing my rubber-bottom slippers. Ick! Cali does her best to prance around the slimy creatures, but despite her tip-toes, I can still hear a CRACK! now and then.
For my birthday, my mother-in-law gave me a flip video camera. A couple of my friends were raving about theirs so I was more than a little excited to receive one for my birthday this weekend. The one she gave me has a picture of Cali’s beautiful face on the front of it…I will admit, I squealed with joy. Here is my very first movie I made of my Cali monster–I am sure it is the first of many. Enjoy!
Cali and I do not have a good history at the dog park. There are two main incidents that come to mind when I think about this place where dogs are supposed to enjoy themselves, run free and burn off steam…
You never really know what kind of dog you will get when you adopt or rescue one that was abandoned by someone else.
Someone that thought they were ready for a dog, then found out how hard it is to own one, train it and love it when it does something horrible to your most prized possessions.
I can not help but judge those people that give up a dog, especially one as young as Cali. The people who had Cali before us (they named her ‘Whittier’ btw, how ridiculous!) gave her up before giving her a fair chance to try and be good.
I never had a dog that I could put clothes on, but when I see other people dressing their dogs, I think it is the cutest thing! My mother-in-law has a small dog named Lola that has a wide variety of T-shirts and whenever I am at her house, 9 times out of 10, Lola is wearing one of those shirts.
I have started totally loving buying music on iTunes and adding new songs to my current library. I recently got a gift card to iTunes and it was all too easy to load up the money on my computer and purchase music in a just a few clicks. Then it is like an extra bonus to be listening to my iPod while traveling or at work and then these brand new songs shuffle into the mix.
This is the stuffed animal cow I had gotten Cali from Switzerland. Look at the innocence in her eyes. If she could speak, I think she would say…
…”but this guy, this COW! How could I not tear his limbs from his body, remove the fluff from his carcass? He just tasted so good. It was a nice gift, a nice thought and all, but really? A cow…really??? You couldn’t get me something more fun, more savory to chew? Like a pig’s ear or a rawhide? Atleast those last longer than this silly cow.”
The Cali-monster had her 2nd birthday on November 1st, along with a mini-bday party, but I forgot to post her pictures until now. Ryan and I both bought her a few gifts and she got some from her grandparents in New Hampshire. I made her a double layer vanilla cake with white frosting and sprinkles. Dogs like cake!
