My baby is definitely stretching his legs and swinging his arms these days. A few weeks ago, I only felt the fluttering movement at night. But these days I feel it all the time: when I’m driving the car, when lying in bed, right when I wake up or when I’m chilling on the couch. He is movin’ and groovin’!
My big Christmas gift from Ryan was a year’s membership to Massage Heights, which is a nice chain of massage facilities across the country. They are not a full service spa, they do not have the same steam room, sauna and showers/locker rooms that a Burke Williams has, but their prices are great. And with the membership, I get one massage each month.
The best part about this facility is the have a couple of masseuses that are trained and certified to do prenatal massages so that us prego ladies can get a nice rub down just like everyone else!
I’m at the point right now where I really REALLY want to meet my baby. And I’ve got about 4 months left to go! I am just so anxious to see what he looks like, hear what he sounds like and fill my nose with that soft baby smell. I am sure I will be tired and cranky and wishing to still be cooking him in my belly once he is finally here. I know the diapers will be stinky and that sleep will not come easy. But right now, I want the baby!
I am also ready for the nursery stuff to get done. I feel like even though we have months and months of time, that the time is going to fly by so quickly. Before we know it, we’ll be rushing to paint and put together the crib and all that jazz. Now that I have registered for everything we want/need, there is a vision in my head of how everything will look and I can not wait to see it in person!
I cut caffeine from my morning ritual, which was hard at first because I was so used to prepping my travel mug with a k-cup of Donut Shop flavored coffee from my Keurig. There is a small amount of caffeine you are allowed to have per day while pregnant, but since even decaf drinks have some caffeine in them, it is wise to cut it out all together.
I did switch to decaf k-cups for my Keurig and brought some to work to use in the Keurig there. However, I lost the taste for coffee when I was about 6 weeks pregnant. I no longer wished I could brew a cup and needed to avoid the smell at all costs.
It is hard to keep up an exercise routine when you are tired ALL THE TIME! When I get in the car after a long day at work, I envision flopping down in bed for a nap. And some days, after an hour’s commute from work to home, that’s exactly what I do. But I try to get outside for a walk 3-4 times per week, usually 1.5 to 2 miles–just far enough to get my heart pumping.
Last weekend I went to Babies R Us and went scan-happy selecting everything and anything that I thought my baby may need. From strollers to car seats, diapers to bottles, clothing to swaddlers, breast pumps to monitors–I think I finally got it all done. Phew!
I did some research on ConsumerSearch.com before going to the store and found the top rated & reviewed brand of every single thing that anyone has ever bought for their baby. It was time consuming to search item by item, print the page and highlight the best reviewed product, but it was so easy to reference those print-outs while in the store. It took a little over an hour for me to get about 85% of it done in the store and I got the rest of it done online. I am convinced it would have taken me so much longer if I hadn’t done the product research prior to going.
I think that Cali, my basenji-lab mix, was the first one who knew I was pregnant. Towards the last few days when I did not know I was pregnant, she was constantly leaning on me when I was on the couch and practically laying on top of me when we would be close to sleepy time in bed. After I found out that I was going to have a baby, I could see her doing this more and more.
Although she always followed me around before I was pregnant and would be at my heels or under foot throughout the house, she does so even more now than ever before. Even when I get up in the middle of the night to use the restroom, she will hop out of bed and sit at my feet in the bathroom and wait for me to finish. Then she follows me back to the bed, does her circle-pace-circle-pace to find the right spot and lets her body fall to the mattress with a flop and a groan as she leans up against my leg.
