At the Movies

May 5th, 2008 Posted in Miscellaneous | no comment »

Ryan took me to see Iron Man on Saturday night at our local movie theatre. We went to the 9:30pm showtime and still had to wait in line to get in, which I totally love. I am a big fan of watching a great summer movie with a ton of people. The overall reaction and enjoyment is enhanced when everyone is into it as much as you are. We got into the auditorium 30 minutes before the lights when down, the previews came up and that is when Will Smith walked in with his son.

We noticed the back row taped off while waiting for the movie to start and Ryan and I were both wondering why Howie Mandel (also in the theatre with us) would be able to get the row behind him tapped off. Maybe he has a thing about people sitting and talking behind him when he’s trying to enjoy a movie? But that was not the case. I guess if you are Will Smith and essentially the biggest movie star in the world right now, you can get whatever you want.

Long Hours Seem Long

May 2nd, 2008 Posted in Poetry | one comment »

I have exhausted all efforts to surf the net
And wait for time to pass more quickly.
Nothing left to do and still
An hour left in the work day.
The endless possibilities of the weekend
Come to mind as I daydream about…

Crumpled bed sheets made overly soft
From constant lying, rolling and curling.

The warm, inviting smell of sleep is palpable.

Spongy feather pillows fluff under flopping heads
That fall hard when the world has quieted.

My body yearns for sleep as it sits propped
In a desk chair on wheels.
Aching muscles are ready to rest
When the long-awaited nighttime snooze arrives.

The Bachelor Update

May 1st, 2008 Posted in Miscellaneous | no comment »

I was finally able to watch my tivo’d copy of The Bachelor last night. Shayne, Amanda (meeps), and Chelsea were in Barbados with Matt and he got to have really long, one-on-one, overnight dates with all three women. The day-time part of the dates were spent either on the beach, in the water, or zip-lining through the tropical forests. When watching this episode where all four of them are secluded on an island, you always wonder if the Bachelor is getting lucky with all three women.

Beckham

Apr 30th, 2008 Posted in Miscellaneous | no comment »

After much debate, I have decided to share a link with all of you that quite vividly demonstrates Mr. Beckham and his fit footballer bod. I feel like I have to share it with more people than just my mother: click here.

Now tell me, is he not the finest thing you have seen today? I was almost embarrassed to be looking at this Emporio Armani ad in the May edition of Elle that I was perusing at lunch while eating left-over pizza. My first instinct (which I did act upon) was the rip the page out of the magazine so I could study it closely. Then I went to my computer and Googled “armani” and “david beckham” to get the full experience.

Dreams

Apr 29th, 2008 Posted in Miscellaneous | no comment »

I am the only one I know that has such vivid dreams. My emotions are always deeply embedded in these dreams and I can easily remember every single detail when I wake up. Sometimes the dreams are so good that I feel incredibly happy when I get out of bed and can not stop thinking about everything that happened in my head while I was sleeping.

Other dreams are more like nightmares and I wake up in a sweat or frozen, unable to move an inch because fear has wrapped itself around my body.

Mind Melting Ramble

Apr 28th, 2008 Posted in Poetry | no comment »

Broken finger nail, fixed with acrylic

Polished pink while awaiting re-growth

* * *

Polaroids on shoe boxes

Save space in over-stuffed closets

* * *

The picture of family

Lethargically develops on McAfee Ct

While puppy paw prints

Press on freshly fluffed bathroom mats

Fine black hairs scatter carpeted floors

And hide between bedroom sheets

* * *

A long jog through heat filled air results in

Dragging a stationary basenji

As she lies in the shaded grass with

Legs stretched behind her, as long as she can go

The unruffled blades of green tickling her tummy

In efforts to stay cool in the 90 degree weather

I won’t go home without you

Maroon 5 descends from ears to stomping feet

As I slow to a stop and lean over

Hands on knees to catch my breath

She looks up, eyes squinting in the sun and smiling wide

Tongue flopping up and down, side to side

I reach my hand down to stroke her forehead

She rolls to one side exposing her belly

Silently asking to be rubbed, caressed, tickled…

…anything but dragged one step further.

LA Galaxy

Apr 25th, 2008 Posted in Miscellaneous | no comment »

Ryan has season tickets to the LA Galaxy. He got them after discovering that David Beckham would be moving to Los Angeles to play on the team. Ryan has 2 seats and he shares the tickets with a friend of his. They split up the games over the course of the season and sometimes go together, but this Saturday is my day to go with Ryan. He is excited to take me and show me where their seats have moved to since last year. They were in a good spot before, about 8 rows up from the field toward the goal line. I went to a few games last season and had fun watching the games, but Beckham was injured so we only saw him riding the pine. But this season will be great because Beckham is fit and Posh is in the stands. Believe it or not, my hairstyle was NOT inspired by this Spice Girl. But I think that if we met, we would be the best of friends.

Feeling these lyrics…

Apr 24th, 2008 Posted in Miscellaneous | no comment »

Back to the street
Down to our feet
Losing the feeling of feeling unique
Do you know what I mean?

Back to the place
Where we used to say
Man it feels good to feel this way
Now I know what I mean

Back to the street, back to the place,
Back to the room where it all began…

The Bachelor Update

Apr 23rd, 2008 Posted in Miscellaneous | no comment »

Last night I watched my Tivo’d copy of the Bachelor that aired Monday night and I was squealing with laughter when the fourth hometown date involved the girl, Amanda (aka “meeps”) hiring actors to play her parents. The fake parents were totally over the top with the Bachelor, Matt, and he was so embarrassed when the fake mom started to rub his nipple and kiss him all over. But even worse, the fake dad was mad at Matt for coming on to the fake mom! You should have seen Matt’s face, he was so flushed! Matt was trying so hard to prove to Amanda’s family that he was a good guy and they made it impossible for him to do that. But Amanda unveiled the prank when she feared it had gone too far and I think he genuinely liked the fact that she played a trick on him. You can tell that Matt is an easy going guy. If he was not so laid back and fun, he would not have given Amanda a rose at the end of the show.

Candy, Cookies & Cakes – Oh My!

Apr 22nd, 2008 Posted in Miscellaneous | no comment »

You all know by now that I am a huge fan of food, especially sweets. One of my most frequented candy when in college was Sour Patch Kids, which I have just decided to call SPK. They always filled me up in between classes or late at night, were inexpensive and had 0g of fat. Sometimes I would chew a few, then I would switch to sucking off the sour sugary coating and succeeding in getting the gummy stuck in every crevice between my teeth. And if I was in the mood for something wild and crazy, I would wash them down with some Sprite and it was like the fizz would have a chemical reaction with the sweet/sour gummies.

Cleaning

Apr 21st, 2008 Posted in Poetry | 2 comments »

We cleaned out our garage to make room
for a second refrigerator and oh, the crap we found.
My car’s trunk is now filled within an inch
of not being able to close the door…
shoes, clothes, belts, hats, stuffed animals, bedding…
it is all destined for Goodwill donation.
Our garbage cans are full of out-dated
cleaning supplies with faded labels from which it is
nearly impossible to discern what they are used for.
The walls, for the first time, are becoming bare,
as large items are being reorganized or removed.
Our shelves are now neatly stocked…
paint cans, colorful storage bins,
Christmas decorations, tool boxes…
everything fitting in its own place.
Even our cars seem to glide more freely into their
respective spaces and drivers’ side doors can be opened
without tapping the wall or car to the left.
It is amazing how sucking it up
and tossing the things you truly do not need
will make life a little less crammed.
